2017 season just under way with a drawn match against Lancashire.
Best we can hope for this year?
Stay in division one and a decent cup run in one of the competitions?

As a guide in the current FTP (May 14 to May 19) 238 Tests are being played.
In May 2019 to May 2023 that will drop to 175 despite having 2 new teams in Afghanistan & Ireland.

The ICC Future Tours programme for 2019 to 2023 is due to be officially launched soon
England are pencilled in for 46 Test matches, which is more than any other country. They will also play 43 ODI’s & 41 T20’s.
I understand there will be an international gap left in April and May to accommodate the IPL

And to stop England taking Sri Lanka and the Windies to Durham in May presumably

Given the rise of T20 and the understandable desire of top players to chase the filthy lucre, I have some doubts that England ever get to play another 100 tests. But I said that 100 tests ago, so what do I know?

Re: Essex county cricket 2017 thread
I see Alistair Cook tomorrow will become the first English player to reach 150 Test matches.
Of active England players Anderson will reach 132 and Broad 112 so the only one ever likely to catch him is Joe Root who plays his 63rd and probably has a decade in front of him.

Essex have promoted the assistant coach, Anthony McGrath, to be head coach from now on. Let's hope he does well with the step up!

Silverwood is gone.

England's bowling coach from January. Will have no part in Ashes.

Fuck off England.

Gutted.

Excellent tournament by WA and should have won every game.
Previously have played the entire tournament around Sydney to help NSW win but this time moved it around with games in other states.

Mitchell Marsh is recovering from shoulder surgery and wont bowl til the New Year so will just bat ... which isn't a bad thing as he will only step up if he can bat at 6 in the Test team.

Am looking for the One day, Big Bash (Perth Scorchers) & Sheffield Shield treble this season.

Re: Essex county cricket 2017 thread
I had Mitchell Marsh to top score and was celebrating when Bancroft got out with Marsh needed 10 runs to overhaul him with them still needing 70 runs.

He then proceeded to get 6 runs from the next 65 leaving me fuming and thinking I was shafted, before finally getting a bat and sealing the deal.

I mean it was only to win £25, but was certainly exciting bet wise.

Game was very one way though.

Domestic One Day competition done and dusted in a 3 week block in Australia and a comfortable win for WESTERN AUSTRALIA by 6 wicket with 6 overs to spare over South Australia in Hobart.

Captain Mitchell MARSH 80no & Cameron BANCROFT 76.
Won 6 of their 7 matches and lost the other by 5 runs when totally in control.

Now switch to 3 Sheffield Shield matches for each state as build up to THE ASHES.
Of course these matches will be going on when England arrive so they will be offered warm ups against a WA Second X1 and a couple of 'Cricket Australia X1' teams.

Worry about your own players if I were you Boots, considering you haven't won the title since 1978!!!

He'll improve now he has proper coaches around him ;o)

Stitch up?
They won the title by winning the last game of the season didn’t they?

There was lots of talk of the cosy Middlesex/Lords connection being used to rescue them this season.
Which didn’t happen
